To better introduce the theme of the third edition of the project Design Made in Hong Kong, “Memphis and the Post-Contemporary Object”, on February 18th 2022 the Hong Kong Design Institute, the Italian Cultural Institute Hong Kong and the Novalis Art Design Gallery organized a master lecture with the legendary Memphis Group designer, Martine Bedin.
The designer was born in Bordeaux in 1957, first studied architecture in Paris before moving to Florence in 1978 where she was introduced to members of the Radical Architecture movement including the founders of Superstudio, Studio Alchimia, and Archizoom Associati. After an introduction to Ettore Sottsass and sharing her bold designs, she became a founding member of the Italian design collaborative Memphis Group in 1981. Martine Bedin’s designs are best known for their colorful, kitschy, and expressive attributes.
